Search Engine Optimization Tips
I’ve been researching about search engine optimization (SEO) so I might improve the volume and quality of traffic to my web site from search engines. I came across a good article at an affiliate program where they provide their affiliates with lots of marketing tips and tools.

1. Link Popularity
We all know that link popularity is by far the most important factor for determining your search engine ranking. Higher link popularity scores results to higher search engine ranking.
Google measures link popularity by the number of links (votes) that search engines and other websites has for your site.
It is said that over 50% of all search engine traffic comes from Google so if you can get to the top of Google you will raise to the top of the others search engines as well.

2. Article Submissions
In submitting your contents to article directories, consistency is the key. It is a fact that as more and more articles are added to article directories, your article will go lower in the listings, thus burying it into oblivion.
However, if you constantly and consistently submit new articles you will continue to reap the benefits. Article submission is a great way to build up the link popularity of your website. It gives you residual and life-time links.
You must not forget to always close your articles off with a link back to your site which is relevant to the copy of the article. It is better to hyperlink the related keyword with your url rather than hyperlinking the url itself.

4. Optimize the Title Tag
In your title tag, you should include 1-2 of your most important keyword phrases but don’t just list keywords.
You risk being viewed as spamming the search engines if you just list keywords. This can ultimately lead to you being blacklisted from the search engines and not included at all.
To avoid this problem, your title tag should include your keyword phrases within a readable sentence.
Make your title interesting to humans! Remember that even if you get that top listing in the search engines, your listing still needs to be interesting that makes the surfer want to click your link and visit your site.
Some engines crop the length of your title tag so it is suggested that you place the keywords at the beginning of the tag when possible to decrease the risk of having them cut off.
With static websites, every page should have its own title tag with its own keywords that relate to the page that it appears on.
5. Optimize the Meta Description Tag
Give appropriate descriptions which are related to your site. Put in mind that some search engines display this description in the search result.
Include only targeted keywords in description. Avoid stuffing the description with more keywords. Limit the number of words in this tag to 10 to 15 words.
Place the most important phrases at the start of the description so that the important phrases will still be displayed even if some search engine omits the latter part of the description.
6. Optimize the Meta Keywords Tag
The importance of Meta keywords tag is debated these days. So this is optional.
For static websites, include only the keywords that appear in the body text, and no more than 5-7 keywords.
You can also add alternate spelling of words, including typos, and synonyms of those make money keywords.
