It is once quoted that in affiliate marketing, “many are called but few are chosen”. What may be the reason why only few are successful while the rest are failing?
Stories of successful affiliates earning tremendous amounts of money plus the lots of hypes perpetuated by marketing gurus who take advantage and make fast money out of the internet “gold rush” are attracting many people to join the affiliate marketing industry. Many are filled with the hope that they are going to have instant fortune once they indulge in this particular business.
While it is true that affiliate marketing is financially rewarding, it would be much easier to fail in this business if we don’t know how the entire business runs. Not knowing the entire system will likely lead us to the wrong belief that it is something capable of giving us great fortune overnight. And this will eventually result to our downfall.
The affiliate marketing business is not as simple as just promoting a merchant’s products through your website and getting paid for it. It involves about knowing the market and the customers at hand.

This way, we are able to know what to do in connection with building a better website to ultimately use for our business.
- Not giving the needed information.
Most affiliates make the mistake of stuffing their sites with banners but they do not provide enough information about the product they promote. While there is nothing wrong with plastering banners, you need to provide good content so that readers will know and understand what the product is all about.
- Dependence in only one product.
The popular idiom says “Don’t put all your eggs in one basket”. Don’t risk wasting your time and effort with just one product. You have more chance of having more revenue if you have several alternative products to offer. Promoting only one product may only generate fewer sales. Besides, it’s better to offer your customers a handful of products to choose from.
- Promoting too many products
This is just the opposite of advertising only one product. Promoting too many products will only confuse your costumers and may end up beyond making a choice. Just give them only the best choices and it is ultimately up to them to judge which one is the best for them to buy.
To sum it up, affiliates that are bound to fail in this business are those who do not exert enough effort to understand everything involved in the industry that they are in. The successful and chosen ones are those that took time to know their path step by careful step. They understand that there is no other way to succeed than to go through any path slowly but surely.
