Marketing Your Website So You Get Noticed

When you start a website, it can be a lot of fun coming up with fonts and logos and colors. However, it doesn’t matter how attractive your site is, you still need to do a lot of things to make sure that your site gets visitors. After all, if you don’t get visitors, all the work you did on your site is for nothing. Here are some steps to make sure your online marketing works.

The first thing you must do in order to make your site marketable is to make sure you have the right target market. That means finding just the right people for you and your site. Who are your customers? What do they want? It is tempting to say that you want to sell your products to everyone, but when you do that, you actually make it harder for yourself. “Everyone” has different interests, and one-size all marketing is something that won’t work because it is too vague and doesn’t really speak to anyone.

After you have found the right audience for you, the next step to good marketing is to provide your target market with good content. You can’t just put some words up on your site and expect them to work. Each article, each product description, and each “about me” page has to be tailored with your target market in mind. Look at your site as if you were one of your customers. What would they want to see?

Do not forget the search engines. As you are crafting content, it’s a good idea to remember that search engine crawlers filter through your content looking for relevance for certain keywords. Again, think about it in terms of your customer. What would they be looking for in a search engine if they were trying to find you? Use those keywords in your content so that the search engine knows that you are relevant to those customers.

Next, you want to make sure that you use social media. Social media is a free way to contact people almost instantly. You need to find out which sites your target market visits most, whether that be Facebook, Twitter or any of the other sites out there. Then, you can build a relationship by posting updates that are relevant and interesting to your target market.

Then, write articles and post them on other people’s sites. This is a great way to establish yourself as an expert, and it is a good way to get other people to know about you outside of your immediate circles. This can be a good way to help search engines index you as well, because you keep showing up and the crawlers take that to mean that others view you as an authority too.

With these ideas in mind, you can start thinking about how to best market your site. When you use the tips here, you are going to find that your site is more successful, and isn’t that what you’re looking for?
